Our newest sermon series is entitled HEROES. Throughout this series, we will revisit the stories we grew up learning in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, but we will look at them with fresh eyes and for maybe the first time we will see and understand how they fit into the grand narrative of Scripture. We’re finally going to understand how these stories relate to us today and how they all point us to the One True Hero. This week, we are looking in Genesis 6:9-9:17 to revisit the spectacular story of Noah and the Ark. Here are some notes to help you follow along.

God’s Eternal Plan:
“And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people.” Leviticus 26:12

God makes new beginnings to continue his good kingdom on earth.

1. The final outcome of human sin is God’s judgment and death.
A. The Flood
B. Israel in the Desert
C. Israel in Exile
D. Jesus on Calvary

2. God has made a covenant with his people. (Genesis 9:8-11)
A. Noah and the Flood
B. Israel in Moab
C. Israel in Exile (Isaiah 54:9-10)
D. Jesus on Calvary (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

3. Through Jesus, God makes a completely new start with his people.
A. He gives us clean hearts.
B. He gives us hope of a new creation.

4. God remembers us, his remnant. (Genesis 8:1)

5. God is making for us a new beginning to continue his good kingdom on earth.

This mission has many facets, but the foundation of the mission is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the rock upon which His church is built, the cornerstone of our knowledge of God and our faith in God. The Great Commission found in the last few verses of Matthew 28 was Jesus’ mission for His church. The way we are to accomplish this mission is to proclaim the truth about Jesus to all the nations, making disciples of them, baptizing them, and teaching them all that Jesus has commanded of us. This message is what we are studying in this four week series, THE GOSPEL. This week we are talking about part three: JESUS (who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised to do).

Unlike what most people think when they hear the word worship, it is not simply what we do when we sing songs about God. We are born worshipping. We are either worshipping someone or something or we are worshipping our Creator. This week we are going to try and understand what worship is and how we can align our hearts and minds to make sure we worship the only one who deserves to be worshipped…our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

Our latest series of sermons is based on the mission of Jesus. Our responsibility as Christians is to become more like Jesus every day. This means we are to learn and understand the mission of Jesus so that we can live on mission with him. This week’s sermon reveals that being on mission with Jesus means we have to be concerned for the city like He was. When we recognize Jesus’ concern for the city, it drives us to become like him in our living lives sacrificially for those within our own city. After you look at your city through eyes of Jesus, you’ll never see it the same again. Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

I. Three Parts to a Healthy Heart

1. A concern for the glory of God.
2. A concern for the sanctification of the church.
3. A concern for the salvation of the lost.

II. Your Desire Drives Your Direction

1. Who is the greatest beneficiary of my time?
2. Who is the greatest beneficiary of my resources?
3. Whomever benefits the most from my actions, that is the one upon whom I’ve set my affections.

III. Your Direction, Not Your Intentions, Determines Your Destination

1. Jesus must become the object of our affection.
2. The gospel is the light that directs our path.
3. Our actions determine our impact for the kingdom.

Our new series of sermons is based on the mission of Jesus. Our responsibility as Christians is to become more like Jesus every day. This means we are to learn and understand the mission of Jesus so that we can live on mission with him. This week’s sermon reveals that our mission is a mission of death. While it might sound morbid, it is truly a wonderful mission to which we are called. Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

The
 Mission
of
 Jesus:
A
Mission
of
Death
John
12:20‐26

1. The objective of the mission is Jesus glorified.

2. You have been chosen for this mission. (v. 25)
a. You can refuse the mission: (i.) Loving your life in this world; (ii.) Losing your life eternally.
b. You can accept the mission: (i.) Hating your life in this world; (ii.) Gaining life eternal.

3. Your death is essential for the success of the mission.

4. Your life must be focused solely on the mission.
Our shameless focus on self must be replaced with a total
focus on Jesus and His mission.

5. The evidence that the mission is succeeding:
a. We will look more like Jesus daily: (i.) Jesus’ will increase and we will decrease; (ii.) Our desires will become like the desires of Jesus; (iii.) We will be consumed with God’s glory, our brothers, and the lost.
b. We will proclaim the gospel of Jesus daily.
c. We will see lives changed by the power of the gospel.

6. The end result:
a. Jesus will be glorified.
<itunes:summary>Our new series of sermons is based on the mission of Jesus.
6. The end result:
a. Jesus will be glorified.
b. We will be with Jesus for eternal life.
c. We will share in the honor and glory of the Son.

The Bible is clear that anyone who professes to be a Christian must live in a way that shows that they truly are committed followers of Jesus Christ. At the end of the book of Ephesians, Paul makes it very clear that God’s calling on our lives to be a Christian is also His call on our lives to enter into a war. This week’s sermon reveals why we are at war, with whom/what we are at war, and what we need to do in order to prepare for battle. Do not be mistaken, if you are a Christian, you are already at war, whether you realize it or not! Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

Our Call to Christ is a Call to War!

I. Awaken to the war around you!

1. Our ongoing relationship with God is our strength.
2. The war is personal and corporate.

II. Christianity is a call to continually stand firm.

1. Our past accomplishments are not enough.
2. We begin with truth at our core.
3. Your character is at your defense.
4. The gospel must be our firm-footing!
5. Reliance on God is our greatest defense personally and corporately.
6. Our confidence is in our salvation.
7. Our weapon is our knowledge and understanding of the Word.
8. We must remain vigilant in prayer: a) Prayer for others; b) Not prayer for freedom; c) Prayer for boldness

III. Proclaiming the gospel is the purpose of the war.

Membership is about more than attending church meetings. Members who enter into a covenant with us are called to a higher degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice. By becoming a Covenant Member you are committing to be part of a spiritual family that will provide support and encouragement in your walk with Christ. Our elders and leadership pledge to assist our Covenant Members first and foremost, by providing care and counsel as well as pray, teach and guide as necessary. This week’s sermon reveals the ten essential qualities needed in the members of our church for our church to be healthy. Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

I. Two problems we have in this day and age:

1. See Scripture as the final authority on all things.
2. Are pursuing Jesus as the ultimate treasure.
3. Follow in obedience after Christ in the ordinances.
4. Genuinely love one another and enjoy participating with one another in healthy biblical community.
5. Make up an open-handed church.
6. Walk in holiness as an act of worship to Jesus by the Spirit.
7. Take serious the areas of life that the Scriptures deem foolish.
8. Take the responsibility of Christian freedom seriously.
9. Are willing to engage one another over sin and who are also willing to be engaged.
10. When we fail at all of this, we are quick to: a) Confess it to God and to one another b) Repent and seek to put that sin to death

III. Covenant Membership: 3 Step Process

God gave us the institution of marriage ultimately to point us toward the relationship between Jesus and his bride, the church. In fact, the gift of marriage was given not just for us and our enjoyment, but to help us display the glory of God to the world. This text is the second in a short series within Ephesians on how we are to submit to authority in order to display God’s glory and magnify our Lord, Jesus. This week we are focused on how husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church and gave himself up for her. Here’s a short outline with a link to the sermon below, or if you have iTunes, you can go to our page there and subscribe to our podcast.

Submitting to God pt. 2: Husbands

Husbands, love your wives as Jesus loves the church:

1. Jesus feeds his bride.
2. Jesus lavishes his bride with gifts.
3. Jesus knows his bride intimately.
4. Jesus is long-suffering with his bride.
5. Jesus continually encourages his bride.
6. Jesus pursues his bride, wooing her.
7. Jesus fought for the purity and holiness of his bride.
8. Jesus gives himself fully to his bride.
9. Jesus sacrificed everything for his bride.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
<itunes:summary>God gave us the institution of marriage ultimately to point us toward the relationship between Jesus and his bride, the church.

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices wit the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”
